In the life of every fully functioning Christian, relationships are at the core of everything they do. Say that to the modern church attender and you will most likely get a blank stare with a polite nod as they try to process your statement through the religious lens of a typical Sunday Serv-Us. Why? Well because much of the modern church rarely emphasizes the biblical reality that ALL Christians are to be HIGHLY relational. Instead, it teaches us to focus on our vertical life, leaving out the equally important (dare I say - more important) horizontal life each one of us are called to live.

We are taught to read more, study more, pray more, sing more, attend more. It’s rare that we are ever taught to love more. It may be because loving more would mean you would have to GIVE more - not a very popular message especially when most people don’t like doing “more” of either. So unfortunately this truth goes unchallenged, which leads to it being untaught, which ultimately leads to being unbelieved and unfulfilled.

The good news is I have no such aversion to challenging people. So let me LOVE you for a moment or two. . . In the New Testament Jesus taught us that the world would know that we are His disciples because of our love to them . . . sort of sounds relational doesn’t it? However, Jesus didn’t just talk a good game, He showed us how to Live Relational with; The Twelve, The Wedding, The Sick, The Outcast, The Religious, The Sinner, The Seventy, The Nation, and The World. As if that’s not enough, He then makes sure that His Manual For Living points out this important truth fifty-nine times. That’s right, 59! Just under 60 exhortations to actually “do” something RELATIONAL.

Now, before you run out and try to “do” something relational, you must understand that these behaviors were never meant to be something that we do out of a duty, but from a life of devotion. You see, these relational actions are to be a result of our overflowing, life empowering relationship with Jesus. It’s sad to say, but this may be why most of the church today is rarely relational.

Whoa! Take a moment and run those last two sentences through the filter of your modern church experience. Consider their veracity, and then consider how we experience our “relational” times together. All the people sitting in nice neat little rows, looking and listening in the same direction, a near impossible set up for anyone to actually be relational! Think about it . . . the modern church is about as relational as watching a moving in a Movie Theater! BTW, most people go to the Movies on double dates so they don’t have to be relational. I wonder if most people go to the modern church to . . . never mind. ; ) This unfortunate reality is the reason for The Message and for our Gatherings. To get back to a place where believers can begin Learning Love and Living Life!

Okay! Back To The 59 Times. Do yourself a favor; For the next eight and a half weeks, read one of the “One Anothers” each day from the list, and then do your best to live it that day, making sure it comes from the overflow of your daily relationship with Jesus.

Alright now. Go On! Do it!! I mean, what do you have to lose? Why not be blessed and a blessing, and in the process become Biblically Relational!
